Delicious Library lives up to its name.

Just recently released by a new company named Delicious Monster, Delicious Library is a saliva-inducing app that is a must-have for anybody who has a collection of movies, CDs, or books.

If you have an iSight or other DV camera plugged into your computer, you can simply scan the barcode of the items and the program will access the Amazon.com database to download all the relevant information and a picture of the CD, movie, or book cover. I must say that this program is very visually appealing and allows the user to quickly sort through all of his/her belongings.

I am an avid DVD purchaser and therefore have plenty of people coming to me to borrow movies. Delicious Library also includes a checkout feature, which accesses your address book and iCal. On the bottom left of the program you can see a list of all the people in your address book and add a new user if necessary, for example when Jim next door comes over to borrow a DVD. You create a new profile for Jim (and the program apparently detects that Jim is a guy’s name, and therefore displays a generic image of a guy — if you were to type Jame, you’d see a generic female pop up). Then simply drag the DVD from your library on to Jim’s name, and you can set a due date that he needs to return it by. Look in iCal — it shows up there too!

I get enough bang for my buck from this program, that the $40 purchase fee is worth it to me. Perhaps it’s not to you, but once you test out this program you’ll want it for yourself as well. I have been highly pleased with it so far, and look forward to future updates. Perhaps sharing libraries as you can in iTunes and iPhoto? Perhaps exporting your library as a webpage with thumbnails so people on the internet can see your collection?
