the telephone email domain for Cingular and Verizon are @cingularme.com and @vtext.com respectively. My wife and I routinely use email to send text messages to each other (I'm in class taking notes and email a text to her phone or vice versa).

Yes, but not with the same script. The script here submits to a script on Cingular's server, so it only works for Cingular accounts. If the other provider also provides a “send a text message” web form however, then the same process will work with the only requirement being that the script be altered to post the correct values to the correct script on the other provider's server.

There is one other option as well. If the provider provides an email-to-SMS service (and most do), then the script can be altered to generate and send an email straight from your computer instead of posting to a web form script. This would get the text message to the receiver's telephone via the provider recieving it as an email and converting it to a text message instead of recieving it from the web form and generating a text message.

With this the second option, it's not really even worth writing a script though since you can simply compost a message in Mail.app and send it straight to the user's "telephone email address" provided by all major providers. Examples of these "telephone email addresses" are "8885551212@mobile.mycingular.com" for Cingular, "8885551212@tmomail.net" for T-Mobile, and "8885551212@vtext.com" for Verizon.
