Free Pizza...
We need volunteers to help us with voting for Vibe. If you can come at 6:00 and can bring a MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPod Touch or iPhone, we will give you pizza and free entrance to Vibe.
If you want to do this, please respond to jay.carr@mac.com , I need to know how much Pizza to buy...
Yours,
Jay Douglas Carr
Hey Folks,
In order to get more people out to Vibe we're going to be putting flyers up all over Freshman Housing tonight. If you can possibly help, come!
We're going to be meeting by Taco Bell in the WSC, right in front of the Vibe poster we have on that wall there. Around 6:45 or so. Bring a friend, the more people we have, the faster it goes, right?
Yours,
Jay Douglas Carr
Mac Users Group,
Okay, I need two kinds of volunteers, so bear with me for a second. Of, if you know you just want to volunteer, just email me ( jay.carr@mac.com ).
First, it's high time we got more classes going. We had a whole, I dunno, three or four at the beginning of last semester, and that was it. They were poorly advertised and poorly organized. And I have no one to blame but me... Which is something I hope to remedy :-).
I need people to help me plan and execute these classes. I reeaaalllly want to do them, but I'm currently in the midst of dealing with two major events (Vibe and iOscars), and it difficult to find the time. If you want to be in charge of something in a big club (which, by the way, looks great on a resume), please contact me! Let's get these classes going already...
Second, speaking of those big events... If you haven't heard of Vibe yet go to vibe.byu.edu and check it out. It's going to be a great event. All proceeds will go to funding our club meetings and classes (and possibly CocoaHeads as well, our sister club for Mac Programmers), so it's for a good cause.
Anyway, it's on the 17th of January, and is fast approaching. We're going to need a lot of volunteers to help hand out flyers and man our booth for the next two weeks. If you think you are interested in helping with either of these, please contact me! You do get compensation, by the way, we're having a pizza party for people who volunteer more than once...
Thanks for your patience in reading this, and your patience with us while we figure out how to serve you better...
Yours,
Jay Douglas Carr
MUG President

Facebook is quickly becoming a very good way to keep track of events and opinions. So if you are not a member of Facebook, I would recommend it.
The Mac Users group is looking for someone to be our webmaster. If you are familiar with CSS and would like to be able to have a couple projects in your portfolio. Here's a good opportunity for you.
If you're interested contact Jay Carr at jay.carr@mac.com.
Well, the poll has yielded some pretty mixed results so far. It would seem that people prefer 4,5 and 7 more than any other time. Since 7 is leading by a vote, we might just go with that time. But, there's no harm in leaving the poll up for another week just to see what happens... So, if you haven't voted on our poll please do. And, if you haven't voted for President yet (assuming you are reading this on Tuesday), please vote on that as well :-).

We're having the second of our classes this coming Tuesday. We are going to be talking about creating Midi tracks (both beats and melodies).
More importantly, we are taking questions on projects you are currently working on. Whether they be about GarageBand, Logic or what have you. If you're working on a music project and are stuck, or need some tips, come on in and we'll address them.
Also, if you missed last weeks class, here is the link to see what we learned so that you'll be up to speed:

The poll that we have on our website is still going strong...er...okay, not so strong. We need some more votes in this poll, so if you have a moment go to
and vote on our poll to decide when we will start having weekly classes. We already know it's on Wednesday, we just don't know the time...
If you happened to miss the recording classes we have been offering we have good news! We're doing them a second time! Why? Well, basically because we're trying to help people prepare for a big event that MUG is doing in January.
It's called Vibe, and it's a going to be an amazingly amazing dance (of amazingness). But, more importantly, we are having a music competition during this dance. If you come up with a song that the crowd likes, you just might walk home with an *iPod Touch*.
This next set of classes is specifically meant to help you get ready to submit a song for the competition, and we'll be teaching you how to do it in GarageBand, so it couldn't possibly be simpler.
So, if you want a chance to win an iPod Touch (or, if you just want to learn how to use GarageBand), come to our class on Tuesday October 28 at 7:30pm in the basement library auditorium. And if you know anyone who might be interested in winning a free iPod Touch, tell them to come along.
We're going to have one of our Apple Campus Reps in the bookstore this Friday. If you have questions about how to use a Mac, go and ask him!
It's the last week of our criticaly acclaimed Vibe Recording Classees! This week we are learning a bit about how to use Logic and Ableton Live, a couple of top flight recording suites. We will also be reserving a large chunk of time to talk about music projects that you are working on!
So, bring your projects and your friends (all of them). And we'll see on October 22 @ 7:30pm in the Library Basement.
We're down to the last stages of figuring out how we are going to schedule weekly meetings! We're now asking what time would be good for you too meet. So, if you have an opinion, come to mac.byu.edu and let us know.
This week we are going to be learning about mixing and mastering. If you only come to one of these classes, this is the one to be at! This is where we learn to take plain recorded audio and make it professional.
So, Wednesday, Oct 15th at 7:30pm in the library basement. Come and find out how you can win a free iPod Touch! (Nope, not joking, just neglected to mention it until now).
The Mac Users Group is putting on a major event this coming January (details our coming out in November, so keep your eyes peeled!). The Bookstore is co-sponsoring the event, and as a result they are kindly making a commercial for said event.
The commercial is going to require some extras do to do some green screen work. If you've ever wanted to be in a commercial, or learn a bit about how green screen technology works. This is your big chance! Contact Jay Carr at jay.carr@mac.com if you're at all interested.
Sorry to bug y'all on a Wednesday, but I just had this handed to me by CocoaHeads (the Mac Programming Club), and figured I'd be a horrible club president if I didn't pass it along:
"The month-long iPhone Development Competition is coming to a close! All finalists will present their applications to a panel of Apple employees tomorrow at 5:00 PM - 1170 TMCB.
We'll be raffling off great door prizes, including an iPod Shuffle, free iTunes downloads, gift certificates, and more!"
Be there if you can!
(Oh, and don't forget that tonight we have the GarageBand classes in the basement of the Library!)
It's time for lesson 2!
Our GarageBand class is moving into it's second week of existence. This week we will be covering MIDI editing. For those of you not in the know, MIDI's are what let you make electronic instrument tracks (including Drum Loops, Orchestral String, Horn Solos and many many more...). Might seem like a daunting task, but Dan Reyes-Cairo (of KBYU) is going to make it easy for you.
So be there, Library Basement Auditorium @ 7:30 on Wednesday. Look for the bright blue and red poster.
And remember, we are keeping these lessons general enough that the knowledge can be used on a Mac or a PC, so bring all your PC friends (and we'll secretly convert them...)
Just a reminder that we are still polling you fine folks on when the best time to meet for classes is. Right now Wednesday is the clear winner, so if you don't like that, you might consider voting on our poll...
This is the last announcement for the day!
We are having Tech Tuesday on (of all days) Tuesday the 30th, between 12 and 1 in the bookstore. Beau Dunn, one of our Apple Campus Reps, will be there answering questions on how to use iWeb as well as any other Mac related questions you can come up with. So, if you would like one-on-one help, visit Beau in Cougar Computer tomorrow.
Also, VOTE IN OUR POLL, if you have not yet done so. On our website, on the left side, is a poll to determine what subjects we will be covering in our classes. So make sure your opinion is heard, vote!
I'm sorry, I really didn't want to do this. I know this email list is only for announcing meetings and classes but I need a bit of help...
The Mac Users Group has a booth Tuesday (Booth 14). And I had someone who was going to man it, but circumstances have conspired against us, he can't be there anymore.
So, I'm asking for a volunteer. All you have to do is sit there, hand out flyers, talk about our recording classes and eat the donuts I give you (see, free donuts!)
So, if you're a bubbly/excitably sort who would like free donuts, write me an Email at jay.carr@mac.com, I'd love to have your help.
