Announcements are ordered in the order that they are added, not in the order that they are actually happening...

It's time for the Vibe Recording Classes! If you've ever pinned for a chance to learn how to use GarageBand from a professional, here's your big chance. Dan Reyes-Cairo (of KBYU), will be explaining general and advanced recording techniques using GarageBand. There are four classes total, spanning the month of October, so that we can cover the topics in depth.

But wait, there's more! These classes are designed to prepare attendants for a mystery music competition that will be happening in January. Further details will come out in early November, but just to give you a teaser... the winner will be getting an iPod Touch! This class is your best chance to get a leg up on the competition... So be there.

Wednesday October 1, 2008 @ 7:30pm until 9:00pm. It's in the Harold B Lee Library in the basement Auditorium.

Remember, the classes teach general recording techniques, not Mac recording techniques. The concepts we are learning transcend the mundane boundaries of operating systems... So bring all your PC friends too :-).

Just so you all know, we have a new poll up on the our website (http://mac.byu.edu). Basically we are asking what iLife application you want to learn about the most. Whichever one wins, we will have a class on that application in the near future. If none of the options appeal to you then click on "other" and then click on the contact form in the upper right hand corner of our website and tell me what you would like to learn about.

Every Tuesday this semester between 11 and 1 we are going to have an Apple Campus Rep in Cougar Computer to answer any questions you might have about Mac.

The Apple Rep will also have a short presentation on a given topic that you can ask them about. This week that topic is going to be iWork. So if you ever wanted to know how to use Pages, Numbers and Keynote, go visit the Apple Rep in Cougar Computer, 11 - 1, Tuesday the 23rd.

Well, in an effort to cut down the chatter I'm going to start doing all of our announcements on Monday (unless something really really important happens during the week.) So, you'll get this and a couple other announcements today, then nothing until next Monday.

The first announcement for today is that we finally have a room number for our MUG meeting this Wednesday! The meeting will be held in room 2111 of the JKB. It's a big room, so bring a friend to help us fill it up!

Sorry for the high volume today! But we do have one more important announcement.

Apple Inc. has a recruiter on campus this week, so if you've ever thought you'd like to work for Apple, this is your chance to find out how. He is holding an information meeting on Thursday from 7pm to 8pm in the Wilk (room 3250). Here's a blurb from the flyer:

"Are you ready to do your best work?
If you are an undergraduate or graduate in Information Systems, Accounting, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, don't miss this opportunity to find out about internships and full time jobs at Apple. MBA students are also welcome."

Make sure that you are one of the majors that they mentioned! Also, they usually have refreshments(though don't quote me on this), so if you like Apple and you like food, you might consider coming.

Yours,
Jay Douglas Carr
Mac Users Group President

Cocoaheads is the BYU Mac Users Group's sister group. Their goal in existence is to teach you how to create Mac and iPhone apps, and do it with style.

If this sounds like something you are interested in, you should come out to their meeting. Here's more info for you:

Hope to see you there!

Folks,

We're happy to announce that the BYU Mac Users Group will be having Jaren Wilkey, Photographer for BYU, speak at our next meeting. He will be spending about an hour explaining how he uses a Macintosh to do professional photography. If you love (or at least like) photography, then come on out and visit with us.

The meeting will be Wednesday, September 24th, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. I would tell you what room it's in, but sadly they won't let us schedule rooms for "non-academic" purposes until the add/drop deadline has passed. But the moment I know the place, I'll post it to our list and to our webpage. So keeps your eyes open, it's coming soon.

Yours,
Jay Douglas Carr
MUG President

PS - Remember, Macintosh's are best experienced in pairs, so bring a friend!
