BYU IT Department Explains How to Set Up Mail (on OS 10.3 and 4)

The Office of IT has posted an updated simple explanation on how to set up your student eMail account on your Mac’s Mail program.

These instructions are simple and actually work. Not only can you receive email from your Mail program, but you can send out eMails from it too. One of the best features is that it’s secure (using SSL so that no one can read your eMails in transit).

Apple Store now open in Salt Lake

On November 19th, the Apple Store located in the Gateway mall made its grand opening in Salt Lake. More information on this new retail store can be found on Apple’s website.

MacNow 2005

This Monday, October 24, 2005, will be the first annual MacNow Expo at UVSC. We will be showcasing a lot of the new Apple technology that has recently been released. We will be doing live podcasts, iChat AV video conferencing, and many other things. As far as swag goes… We will be giving away a black iPod nano. I know you will all be there now. The event will be held at Centre Stage from 9-2. Lots of cool stuff to get your claws on. Hope to see you there.

Meeting: Apple presents on IT and Final Cut Pro

Apple will be on campus this week for two presentations. Both meetings will be held at the same time, so you have to choose which is most important to you. :-)

The first explores Mac OS X client, server and storage options for IT professionals with Frank Callaham.

The second examines Apple’s industry leading Final Cut Studio suite containing Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Soundtrack Pro and Motion 2 with media expert Vin Capone.

Free Mac Seminars

MacDocs in Orem is now offering free seminars on OS X Fundamentals and the iLife applications. Their first ones will be this Saturday, October 1 at 9:00a and 1:00p. Their format will be about a half-hour presentation and a Q&A session afterwards. Sounds like a good opportunity for those recently converted from the dark side or those who want to learn more about their computers!

MacDocs Job Opening

MacDocs in Orem is looking to hire a part-time or full-time Macintosh service technician. If anyone is interested they are currently taking applications for interviews over the next week. They want them faxed at (801)221-0976, brought into their store at 1407 S. State St. in Orem or e-mailed to the store manager at eric@macdocs.com. They said:

We are looking for someone to work part-time or full-time. The part-time position could very easily move into a full-time position if someone desires to however. We are offering a starting wage of $9.00 an hour. Main responsibilities include initial diagnostics of customer�s computers, technical support over the phone for customers, repairs of both desktop and laptop models and service training. Previous repair experience a plus. Additionally, sales experience would be preferred as well. We are willing to train anyone interested in the position. We are more interested to get to know the applicant’s personality and see if they would fit well in the company’s working environment. If you have any other questions please let me know.
