My fiances Macbook hard-drive appears to have failed. It is three years old, and when she tries to start it up it just flashes the folder with a question mark in it. Do you have any suggestions for repairing this? If needed we would just get a new hard drive and replace it, but do you know how we could get the data off the old hard drive?

Thanks!

The flashing folder means that it can't find an operating system on the disk (probably a couple essential files have gotten corrupted). To get your files off it, you'll probably only need a hard-drive enclosure for your old hard drive, and then plug it in to a different computer. That should do the trick.
