Hey all,
Im a new convert to mac and love my macbook. I love how my mac lets me live life instead of making me spend all my time fixing it (*cough* Vista *cough* Xp *cough*), sounds cheesy I know, but its the truth. Once you go mac, you won't go back.
My question is this,
I have brought with me to college my old hard drive in a USB case. Is there a program or tool I can use to that helps the with migration of all my data onto my new mac? I've heard such programs exist but I'm not sure what they are called...
And, I think it might be helpful to publish maybe a "mac 101" article, with quick tips like hot-keys and shortcuts for users, mostly just to help all those coming from a right click world.
thanks again,
Alex.
It's probably not the most helpful answer, but I usually just move stuff manually. I don't think migration assistant will work for you, because it's meant for old OS Installs, but you can give it a try.
As far as I'm aware, most data migration tools transfer information from a running computer to another running computer. While you theoretically have your entire computer there in the USB enclosure, it won't be recognized as another computer. The system will just think it's another hard drive.
That being said, I could be totally wrong. But I think your safest bet would (unfortunately) be to move stuff over manually.
