I have a feeling that this is no longer possible. Or at least it seemed that way when I read the descriptions setting it up, but here goes.
When setting up my BYU email account in Mail preferences I set the server to nm.bye.edu and then put my user id and password, yet it does not work. Is there a way to fix this?
There is a very helpful PDF file on the BYU.edu website. It can be found here. (http://it.byu.edu/go/BasicEmail) Click on the 'OS X Email' link in the left hand navigation panel.
It explains that beyond setting the incoming and outgoing SMTP servers to nm.byu.edu, you will also need to change the ports for both incoming and outgoing mail. Incoming should be 995 and outgoing should be 465. The PDF is very simple to follow and should get you up and running.
With that said, be advised that BYU email addresses are being discontinued as of Dec. 31 2008.
