I have set up my MacBook to receive eMail when I had the computer at home in Denver. Now that I'm a student here at BYU,I wnat to set up the Apple "mail" program to still receive eMail with my old comcast.net eMail address and not have to change my eMail address to a byu.edu address - but since I'm on the BYU.edu service is this even possible? do you mean byu.edu service as in using BYU's internet or using an @byu.edu email address?
I'm assuming you are in the dorms. If that's true, then yeah, you can still get the comcast email onto your computer.
But, before I go on explaining why don't we get a few more details here.
Could you please tell us:
1) What you mean by being on the BYU.edu service
2) Your general location (dorms v. not dorms)
Also post any other information you think might be relevant. And, lastly, we'll be posting the answer to your question here, so fell free to just tell your dad to check this page. It will make life easier for everyone :-).
There is a way to forward your BYU email address to any email address you already check.
When you go into route Y under communication there is an "email alias manager" use this to both create and forward all email sent to a BYU address to your comcast email account. Thus everything sent there will forward andyou can continue to use your old email address.
BYU will be shutting down all student email in December. What that means is if you're using a byu.net address as your primary email address, then you'll need to move to something like MobileMe. If you're only using BYU's email forwarding service ("aliases", as they call them), then you don't have to do anything. Since you're in the middle of setting this up, I'd set it up for something like MobileMe or Gmail and just forward your BYU email to that.
